About Graehme Floyd
At the age of 8, Graehme began his musical life by learning to play the piano. After 5 years, he moved to the guitar when he discovered the music of Metallica. Since then, Graehme has expanded his musical knowledge and abilities extensively, developing a thorough understanding of classical and jazz theory, advanced improvisational concepts, virtuoso technique, composition, music business, and artist development.
As one of the founding member of Opus Rex, Graehme first met Karl Sloman when he was hired to work as a guitar instructor for the Wizdom Music Academy in London, Ontario. After working as a teacher for only a few months, Karl invited Graehme to join his Rush/Dream Theater cover band Falling into Infinity. Graehme and Karl have worked together since then in various other projects including an Elton John tribute act, the jazz/funk band Silvermax, the musical Rent, and the symphonic metal band Autocratic Oath.
Graehme’s primary influences include John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Guthrie Govan, John Coltrane, J.S. Bach, and RUSH.
